Centipede Prevention Guide

Those who reside in an urban setting are less likely to face an invasion from centipedes; these insects prefer living in places with abundant quantity of weeds. However, if there is a garden around your home, there is a high chance that your property shall be infested with centipedes; in that case, the only remedy is implementing effective pest control measures unless you are willing to move to a new location.

Despite their fame as slayers of other harmful worms, larvae and slugs, it’s their poisonous fangs and rate of proliferation that earns them the epithet of pests. These distant relatives to lobsters prefer a high amount of humidity. Thus, the easiest pest control measure that can be applied to them is keeping your surroundings dry as a bone. But when you have a garden, it becomes next to impossible to avoid a humid ground; therefore, you must also know the different types to administer type-specific pest control measures.

Let’s start with the house centipedes. These long-legged basement and attic dwellers no doubt get rid of roaches, crickets and spiders and similar other insects, but that doesn’t lighten the pain of the sting. Besides, they multiply in large numbers as much as the stone centipedes residing under rocks and logs.

Therefore, get rid of the dead leaves and the old boards and clean the wooden piles and decaying matter as a non-toxic pest control method. Added with frequent vacuuming and restricting an access to food and garbage containers shall discourage them as well. To tighten the pest control measure, seal every hole and crack in the walls, windows, plumbing lines and foundations of your home. To add the final touch, apply carbaryl or cyfluthrin or acephate profusely near all entry points in your home. Carbaryl alone can take care of more than 100 species of insects while Cyfluthrin takes care of ants, spiders and roaches. It’s better not to use any of the Restricted Use pest control chemical but if you are not left with any other choice, appoint a professional exterminator to administer them on behalf of you. Else, stay prepared allergies and similar other irritating symptoms. It’s not always possible to apply the correct dosages as per every instruction on the label, so unless you are confident of taking proper preventive measures, it’s best to stay away from this kind of risky pest control measure.
